How to make onboarding and employee events personal
5 October 2026 · 2 min read · Lea Yung, founder of Thursday Station
At an onboarding day, sales kickoff or company anniversary, you want employees to feel they belong. In a full room with a tight schedule, it soon feels generic: everyone gets the same welcome pack, the same badge and the same tote bag.
A personal touch takes less work than you'd expect. Here are three ways to add one, from small to large.
Why personal works
A new hire soon forgets the presentation on company values. The moment something with their own name was waiting for them sticks. With a piece like that, you show you thought of them, at an onboarding day, an anniversary or a team event.
Option 1: everything ready at check-in
With a large guest list, making something personal takes a lot of work. Every badge needs the right name and every item needs to be sorted and ready. That's why we produce everything in advance when you order in advance.
You send us the guest list and we make a personalized piece for every attendee, such as a name badge, badge card or tag with their name and your event details. Want more? We add an AI portrait of each guest in your event's style. At check-in everything is sorted and ready, with no booth, queue or setup on the day.
Option 2: a personal line at the start
For onboarding, the AI Text mode of our live print station works well. New hires answer two questions, for example:
- What are you most excited about?
- What's one strength you bring?
AI writes a personal line from the answers, such as "Your curiosity will build tomorrow.", which we print under your logo. It's a small moment, and the line is theirs.
Option 3: an activity at the company party
At a company party or team outing, a live station works as an activity. Employees make their own keepsake, such as a drawn portrait, a printed T-shirt or a piece with a personal line. They take it home and put it on their desk.
We handle the station, the host, setup and teardown, also at offices outside the Netherlands, so you don't have to organize anything.
Recruitment fairs too
At a recruitment fair or career day, your booth stands next to dozens of other employers. A live station draws candidates to your booth and gives your recruiters a moment to talk. Candidates take home an printed cap or a portrait with your employer brand on it.
What to arrange beforehand
- The guest list, if you want pieces made in advance.
- The style or designs. You approve everything beforehand.
- The questions, for AI Text. We write them together.
- At least 4 weeks of lead time, so we can pre-print your logo on the items.
