How to attract visitors to your trade show booth: 7 practical tips
5 October 2026 · 3 min read · Lea Yung, founder of Thursday Station
You booked the booth, your team is ready and the brochures are stacked. Visitors still walk past. Between demos your booth sits empty, and an empty booth draws few new people.
A bigger booth or a pricier screen rarely fixes that. Visitors stop when they have a reason to stop, and these seven tips give them one.
1. Give visitors something to do
Visitors grab a branded pen on the way past, and your team never gets a conversation out of it. An activity makes someone stop and watch. That gives you an opening.
The best activities take one to two minutes and leave the visitor with something to take home.
2. Make the queue visible
People follow people. When three or four visitors are waiting, the next one wants to know what's going on. A short queue works in your favor.
Make sure visitors can see the moment from the aisle: a printer running and a host handing something over.
3. Let visitors take home something personal
A branded pen ends up in a drawer. A magnet with your own name or portrait stays on the fridge for months, with your logo on it.
At our live print station, every visitor makes their own piece in about a minute, such as a pin, badge card, magnet or keychain with your logo. With AI, that piece becomes a drawn portrait, an illustration or a personal line based on a few questions.
4. Pick a format that fits your brand
A bank wants nothing unpredictable on a giveaway. A fashion brand wants something playful.
That's why we work with four modes. Predesigned mode uses no camera and no AI: you approve every design beforehand and guests add their name. In the AI modes you choose the style beforehand, so everything stays within your brand guidelines.
5. Plan for peak moments
Every show has peaks around opening, lunch and the end of the day. Every piece is ready in about a minute, so one station serves up to 60 guests an hour.
Exhibiting at a large show such as RAI Amsterdam or a Las Vegas expo, with 300 pieces or more? We plan the capacity with you, scoped to your floor.
6. Turn the activity into a conversation
Use the waiting time. While the piece prints, your team has a natural moment to ask something like: what are you looking for at this show?
AI Text mode builds that question in. The visitor answers it at the station and AI turns the answer into a personal line, which we print under your logo. Your team knows right away what to talk about.
7. Get the activation fully handled
Your booth staff should be having conversations, and running a printer gets in the way. Choose an activation with a host, setup and teardown included, so your team stays free.
