Trade show lead generation with an activation people enjoy

5 October 2026 · 2 min read · Lea Yung, founder of Thursday Station

Many trade show activations, from Jaarbeurs Utrecht to Messe Düsseldorf, draw visitors and deliver little afterwards. People have fun, take something home and walk on without leaving a name or email address.

With a well-placed lead step, the same activation brings in contacts. This is how you set it up.

The trouble with lead forms

A tablet with a form feels like work to visitors. They fill it in for a free pen, with half an email address and no interest. Your sales team gets a list nobody follows up.

Build the lead step into something the visitor wants.

Step 1: make the email address part of the experience

We build an email step into the Print Station. The visitor creates a piece and leaves an email address along the way, for example to receive a digital version of their portrait. To the visitor, that feels like a service.

Step 2: ask the question your sales team wants answered

In AI Text mode, the visitor answers a few questions. You write them with us, matched to your goal. For example:

  • What's your biggest challenge at work right now?
  • What would make it better?

AI turns the answers into a personal power line, such as "From endless emails to effortless flow.", which we print under your logo. The visitor gets something fun and you learn what's on their mind.

Step 3: use the waiting time

Printing a piece takes about a minute, enough for a short conversation. Our host runs the station, so your booth staff can focus on the conversation.

A good opening question: "What did you put down as your biggest challenge?"

Step 4: make the follow-up personal

After the show you have more than a name. You know which challenge the visitor mentioned and which piece they took home. Refer to it in your follow-up email: "You took home a magnet from us with the line about less chasing. Shall we talk about that?"

What to expect

An activation doesn't guarantee a number of leads. It does bring more people to your booth and gives your team a reason to start a conversation. One station serves up to 60 guests an hour, and at large shows we run several.

Privacy

If you collect email addresses, ask for clear consent and tell visitors what you'll use the address for. We help you fit that into the flow. We delete guest photos automatically 30 days after the event.
